Discover this beautiful islands while mile building!

This Sailing Expedition is a good option if you are looking for an adventurous 2 week sailing trip with several night watches and navigation.

After crossing the Strait of Gibraltar will be heading to Cabo de Gata. Maybe we have a break in Almerimar before heading to Cabo de Palos. After this cape we will be 2 days away from the blue anchorages of Formentera and Ibiza. Time for snorkeling and explore the white sandy beaches tof this archilpelago.

The route will be adjusted to the weather forecast, but if we have the option we like to visit Cabrera Island, anchor in Formentera and explore some nice calas in the south of Ibiza.

On the way back we might stop in , Gibraltar or another port.

Balearic Sailing Expedition is probably the best Mile Building trip in the Mediterranean. Decent milage, nive offshore sailing and fantastic places to explore ashore.

What's the plan?

A plan is just a plan. We like to sail, we don't like to motor, so things could get off track sometimes. As sailors we are always depending on the weather conditions, everything is uncertain.

Nevertheless, here is the plan for the expedition:

Day 1

After check in and get yourself comfortable we will be discovering the boat and visit the local market to buy fresh fruit and vegetables. After the safety briefing and checking the weather we will do the passage plan. If the weather forecast is good we will be casting off after lunch on a passage to Barbate or Gilbraltar. That should be around 24-26 hours.

Day 2-3

Passing the Strait requires some preparation. Sometimes we stop can be long waiting for the weather. After all this is about sailing! This sailing ground can be tricky so we must be patient and sail with the weather. After passing the strait we will be heading to cabo de Gata.

Day 3-5

Probably with a stop to fill up water tanks in Almerimar or Cartagena. Cartagena is special. Worth to spend some time there. The highlight of this trips obviously is to drop anchor in Formentera and swim in blue cristal waters. If we have the time we will be sailing into Cabrera and hike in this beautiful island (nature park).

Day 5-6

At this time we should be spotting Formentera or Ibiza. Time to swim around in the turquoise water of Formentera and explore ashore. We we have time we sail up to Cabrera archipelago to enjoy a nice walk on the Nature Park.

Day 7-8

We turn around and start our way back to Portugal. If we don't hit the Balearics on day 7 this is part of the game.

Day 8-16

Sailing back from the Balearics crossing Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol requires some nice strategy. We need to go with the wind and as we approch the Strait of Gibraltar normally the winds accelerates and its not rare to find gale warnings in the area. We might stop in San José, Almerimar or another port.
