1200NM Ocean Passage

A nice introduction to Ocean Sailing with a short passage to Madeira. The trade winds will be playing on our favour.

This 1200NM Ocean passage should take 4 days Faro-Funchal + 3 days break in Madeira + 5-6 days sail back against the trade winds. In total 12-14 days passage.

We also include 1 or 2 day for weather delay departure.

If the passage is super fast we will have the chance to landfall in Porto Santo to explore ashore before our final destination - Funchal.

Once in Funchal we will have 1 or 2 days to explore the island do some hiking and explore the "Levadas" before heading back to Portugal mainland. Sailing back against the trade winds will be challenging but also fun.

What's the plan?

A plan is just a plan. We like to sail, we don't like to motor, so things could get off track sometimes. As sailors we are always depending on the weather conditions, everything is uncertain.

Nevertheless, here is the plan for the expedition:

1200 NM Ocean passage

This is just a plan A. We might need to follow the B or C.

Day 1 - Check, safety briefing, boat checks, passage planing, weather forecast and last shopping fruits and vegetables.

Day 2-6 - Ocean passage

Day 6-7 - Explore Madeira Island or Porto Santo Island

Day 8-14 Sail back to Faro

If you want to know more details about the plan and destinations please contact us here.
